Matthias creates his perfectly-imperfect animations by hand drawing every frame from live action footage, a century old technique called rotoscoping. By bringing them online through GIFs and MOVs, he produces digital objects that embrace the smudges and imperfections of handmade creations.

Make things often, practice both what you know and what you don't. Don't dismiss new or old media formats, everything has its value and place.
Using VHS tapes
As far as digital things, mostly adobe programs, specifically Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator. I also use technical pens, brushes, india ink, tracing paper, xacto blades, and anything that works to draw an animation on.
